As you are fully aware, life on this planet is undergoing enormous and rapid change. Whether you are looking at climate change or the effects of globalisation or instability in financial, economic, political or religious institutions, change is something that cannot be avoided.
Change forces adjustment, and people are scrambling to absorb the implications of having to adjust. Out of this new awareness is growing the acceptance that we must consciously take charge of change if we, and the planet, are to survive: an old world is dying and a new world is being born.
Of course change has always been around. But what makes this turn of the wheel much more dramatic is the fact that humanity is beginning to realise that adjustment alone is not going to be enough. It will not be enough to do things differently or behave better. We are going to have to change the very foundations of our consciousness so that the problems we experience no longer need occur at all, or at the very least are minimised. Because consciousness is mediated through the physical structures of the brain and nervous system, we need to develop those parts of the brain that we do not use, and close down the parts of the brain that invoke negative responses and therefore negative realities.
It is this rooting out of distortions of consciousness that will lead to a dramatic improvement in creative solutions for a "new world": what Eckhart Tolle in his best selling book has dubbed a New Earth.
"Old world" consciousness
So what are these problems, and what will it look like when we have dissolved them?
If you stop to reflect on how human life has been conducted on this planet, you will agree that humanity has always seen living as a struggle. The struggle has been to wrest a livelihood from the Earth herself, but more importantly it has been a struggle against each other. On the whole human beings have seen each other as the source of potential difficulty. Leaders, bosses, friends, or institutions apparently for the social good have always been viewed with anxiety. (Nowadays even partnerships, children and religious authorities are the subject of pessimistic expectations.)
This fear-filled attitude has led to two responses: to aggressively protect, or to attack at the first sign of trouble. It is so great that many people are frozen in apathy believing that they cannot change their own lives, let alone world problems. They let themselves be carried by the currents of chaos.
Of course, the human spirit with its courage, inspired creativity, love and mighty spiritual deeds in the name of wellbeing has always poked through the hard ground of fear, but, on the whole, the holding of the light of love has in the past been seen by humanity as the proper task of mothers, and a very few exceptional men such as Gandhi or Mandela. Those who genuinely hold to light and love in the world at large have found the going hard.
The decision to change
Over the past fifty years, the old world attitude based on fear-motivated thinking has been questioned. John Lennon began to Imagine a different world in the ‘60s, and more importantly those interested in healing human pain began to point out that the real trouble rested within individual consciousness. The dislike and suspicion we feel for ourselves is reflected back at us in our perceptions and experience of others.
In response to this understanding, the New Age encouraged ordinary people to seek their own light and love, rather than hope for salvation from outside; many processes uncovered by both secular and spiritual healers have sought to bring about a new world through enlightening individuals and encouraging inner responsibility.
But any positive change at a wider level needs not only the insights of a few, but also the injection of emotional energy into the development of new ways until a tipping point is reached. You need lots of hearts behind individual Will before positive change can take place a wider level. At such a point individual enlightenment floods into mass consciousness. When that happens it is no longer “weird hippies" who want to eat organic food, it becomes ethically acceptable to fight those who would contaminate it. Then the masses suddenly “get it” and it becomes a way of life that none would question.
The tipping point: Individuals taking charge of their reality
The tipping point is now being reached where a vast number of individuals are realising that they have to take charge of their own consciousness and their own reality. These people want to change their own inner "reality creation" mechanisms so that love and well being are the foundation of life rather than fear and struggle. They want to experience their love of life, rather than believing it is a purgatory. But in agreeing to develop a new consciousness, they will also need to accept that they have to commit to letting go of their own anger, panic, blame and rejection of or over-dependence on other human beings, which create that purgatory. These are the ones choosing between a life under old world (pre-2010) rules, and making a path for themselves into the new world of uplifted awareness, protection, creative solutions and action that creates a better place (a world of manifested love).
At base this change will not be created by leaders or revolutions, although these do lead the way. It will be brought about by individuals such as yourself. Fortunately, and for those of us who explore spiritual laws unsurprisingly, this tipping point of awareness has coincided with the development of mind technologies that can permanently dissolve the default mechanisms of fear and suspicion, and these brain changes can in turn lead to better health, more relaxed personal relationships, and greater creativity and ease in living for individuals. Meditation, prayer and spiritual rituals in now widely used to do these things but they do not actually alter knee jerk reactions in the moment. (If you do not believe this, look at how many people in the world are deeply connected to their religions but still continue to promote disharmony between themselves and their fellows.)
New human: new brain
If you are already using such practices, you may believe that you are already living a new world consciousness, but that is unlikely to be so unless you have also adjusted your automatic anxiety responses so that you feel calm and in charge even in the face of provocation or crisis. (This is not the same as emotional repression or positive thinking that denies reality.)
The new world consciousness is not created through techniques you apply once a day, once a week, even five times a day or sudden insights achieved through spiritual practice. It is created through developing a neurological structure that can hold continuously the self-aware ability to bring more love and wellbeing to every experience of life in the Now, whether that moment be miserable, drab or even comfortable.
You will know you are living from that new world consciousness when your daily reality reflects a personal world that is calm, friendly, secure and joyful, and when you have no sense of anxiety about how things will unfold in the future. You will know because your talents will suddenly expand and your intuitive knowledge will flow.
The assistance of Earth energy
Creation of anything new requires enormous inputs of energy - as any pregnant woman will tell you. Our planet is helping us (and all living things) by releasing great rushes of energy in volcanoes, quakes and floods. Although these events cause enormous hardship - and mean that we must put full attention to assisting in the rebuilding the lives of those who suffer - the released energy itself can be harnessed for positive change. Those who use energy techniques to heal themselves and the planet can use this Earth energy for the creation of a better personal and global reality. It is a time to turn crisis into opportunity.
The new consciousness and the new reality it creates will be made possible by processes such as our own Siramarti training program that permit permanent brain changes to accord with the intention to make life different. It will be created by those who have a mature desire and courage to see the Spirit of love embodied in their own lives and the projects they address.
The opening of the brain to new possibilities will lead to remarkable solutions to problems that seem intractable. Technology and science will continue to expand, but so also will new forms of social interaction: new global and governmental structures that address inequality, wastefulness and disharmony.
A fight between old and new
As this process unfolds at an external level, you will see (are seeing) a huge fight between those who have conscious or unconscious investment in old world thinking and those who sense the hope and beauty of the New. It is a big fight because few people really like to give up the familiar way of doing things. The first decade of this change will see resistance on a massive scale.
However, whether you are part of the old, or a citizen of the New will depend not on others' choices, but on your own. You can choose a new world for yourself right now.
Spiritual teachers know that the new consciousness will prevail on this planet in the long run: a new Earth in which safety, peace, efficiency, respect for all living things, health and sharing of the planet’s abundance will be natural. Of course, challenges will persist - after all human beings love to be extended – but these challenges will be seen for what they are: the opportunity to bring more of what we think of as Heaven to Earth.
